Dday minus three

July 30, 2012

It’s a beautiful day in sunny NH. Not too hot yet.

We are on schedule to depart MA on Thursday. A lot has to happen before then.

I called PODS.COM to schedule the transport of our POD to LA. Done. It will be there before us.

More packing and loading of the car today. We hope to be mostly loaded by the end of today.

That being said a few errands need to be done. Got to go to USPO to forward mail to San Pedro. Pick up dry cleaning and finally meet with R.E. agents on plans to sell and/or rent the condo.

We’re kind of assuming that it won’t rent or sell. So we need to make sure that the place is ready for winter. Wind up the awning, put away the deck furniture, etc. I replaced the 9v battery in the freeze alarm. (device that auto-magically calls me when temp goes below 42F).

Tomorrow we had to Chelmsford to stay with friends. Probably dinner at Kimballs in Westford. Past Masters’ dinner on Wednesday evening.

Day 2 – Part 2

July 17, 2012

Sunday Afternoon we had a choice. We chose to go the Guinness Storehouse. Back in the 1745, Arthur Guinness made the deal of the millennium. He signed a lease for the 36 acre site in Dublin for 45 pounds per year for the next 9000 years.

The site is no longer used for brewing beer and is only used as a museum. We did the tour. One ends up with a free pint of Guiness on the 7th floor pub called the Gravity Bar. Spectacular views of Dublin. We also had some Guiness Beef Stew. Very tasty.

Here are a few pictures.

Closing

June 22, 2012

Thursday was the absolute worst. Hot and humid. The POD is full and the car is full.  And there was still stuff to be loaded and/or disposed of.

We did the walk through with the buyers at 6:30. It went well, but we were no where near done cleaning out the house. Phone calls from lawyer and RE agent.

I nice lady dropped by to pick through our trash. She carted much stuff away. She came back for more at about 9pm. She figured that she had found a gold-mine.

The appliance recycler people came to pick up the old TV’s and a friend from lodge came to remove the old bed and a few other things.

Finally we rolled out at about 10:30pm. Finally got to the hotel at about 11:30 after stopping for gas.

So today we have the closing at 10am. Then to the Verizon store to drop off DVR and router. Then drop Paula off to get nails done while I go to PO to get mail forwarded.

Today is going to be a much nicer day. i will post some pictures later.

One more day

June 20, 2012

Each day has been more tiring than the previous one. We had movers help us pack and load the pod on Monday and Tuesday.

Today no such help. Just Paula and I. We spent most of the day cleaning out our bedroom. Three bags: keep, recycle and trash.

Much dust. 25 years of dust under where the beds were. Finally cleaned out the bedrooms.

Kitchen same deal. We took some canned goods for our church food pantry.

Thursday we finish cleaning the kitchen and den.

John VonK picked up a few things going to lodge. Scheduled junk guy to come pick up our old mattress and box spring. Cancelled Verizon Fios. Cancelled newspaper subscription.

We’re staying in a hotel in Salem, NH. All local hotels seem to be booked solid. I guess weddings and graduations.

So tomorrow, we have walk-thru at 6:30. Then closing on Friday at 10:00

POD is even fuller. POD gets picked up on Monday. To bed.

This and That

June 9, 2012

Slowly but surely we are moving furniture out. This morning we got rid of two dressers and a maple rocking chair to Dr M’s daughter. Dr M was Paula’s boss at Chelms. Ped.

Got rid of a few other things yesterday. Still need to get rid of dining room set. See the Craigs List link:

POD comes on Monday. Movers scheduled. Took records to lodge for the yard sale.

Little by little, bit by bit.

August 1 – TTL Past Masters’ Dinner – Lodge of Qualification
August 2 – Leave Billerica
August 5 or 6 Arrive NC

August 16 or 17 Chicago

The beginning of the schedule is obviously more certain. We expect to be making it up as we go.

Memorial Day

May 27, 2012

Well it’s been a busy weekend. Started out yesterday with a visit to the Plymouth Post Office to rent a PO Box for the summer. Then off to Hannafords for groceries. The PO clerk was mad at us for showing up at five minutes before closing to rent a PO Box. Had to have ID cards plus some verification that we were living in the area. Showed them the tax bill. That was good enough.

So new mailing address is PO Box 863, Plymouth, NH 03264.

Today after an excellent breakfast, pancakes for Paula and eggs over easy for me, we headed off for the day’s activities.

Started off with lunch at Kathleen’s Cottage, an Irish pub in Bristol with Guinness on tap. Had an excellent lunch. Paula had a lamb burger and I had a fish sandwich. Very tasty indeed.

Then we headed over to Gilford for the movies. Seeing as we were a bit early we went to Sawyer’s for Ice Cream.

Then to Gilford Cinema to see “The Avengers”. Was an excellent film with much blowing of things up. Scarlett Johansen was exceptionally hot.

Now finally home to have a late dinner of left over pasta and a glass of Shiraz.
